Lunchtime was always the busiest time. Customers streamed in, order after order, phone calls, and bustle—a typical day at the restaurant.
Anna had been working there for two years and knew every detail: where the sugar bowl was, which table was the most likely to complain, and who always left good tips.
The restaurant owner liked to suddenly appear in the dining room, as if looking for something to complain about.
On this day, he was especially irritable—constantly checking his watch, nervously moving chairs, and muttering under his breath.
Anna carried a tray of coffee to the table where the café owner sat. The aisle was narrow, so when she was about to set the cup down, the owner spun around abruptly, without looking around, and his elbow hit the tray. The glass tipped over, and hot coffee spilled all over his white shirt.
He cursed so loudly that even the musician in the corner stopped playing.
“Are you completely out of your mind?!” he yelled, pointing at Anna. “Do you even realize you spilled coffee on the restaurant manager?! How did you even get here, you clumsy idiot?!”
Everyone knew it was his fault—everyone had seen him knock the tray over. But no one dared intervene. Anna stared at him silently, feeling a knot of humiliation clench in her stomach.
The owner continued rambling, as if savoring the moment:
“How many times have I told you: think about what you’re doing!” Or did you really think I wouldn’t notice your mistakes?! I’ll fire you!
He insulted her, yelled, humiliated her in front of everyone, as if he were venting all his anger on the poor waitress.
Anna took a deep breath. Fear gave way to weariness. And finally, determination.
And at that moment, she did something that shocked everyone 😲😱
She calmly wiped her hands with a napkin and said loudly, so the whole room could hear:
“Are you sure you want to talk to me in that tone?”
The owner looked up, blinking in surprise.
“What are you talking about?” he muttered.
“The thing is,” Anna turned to face him, “the cameras in our restaurant work perfectly.” And those in the dining room…” she pointed at the ceiling, “and those in the back room.”
The customers grew wary. The employees froze.
The owner forced out a nervous laugh:
“So what?”
“Because,” Anna took a step closer, “you spent more than twenty minutes in that very back room this morning with the new waitress. And the cameras recorded… everything.”
The owner instantly turned pale. A quiet hum rippled through the room.
But Anna didn’t stop:
“And these recordings, as you understand, will very soon end up with your wife. By the way, she came yesterday with her children—such sweet kids. It would be a shame to lose them, wouldn’t it?”
The owner seemed paralyzed. He opened his mouth, but couldn’t utter a word.
Anna, finally feeling the years-long resentment lift from her shoulders, said loudly:
“You know what?” I was planning on leaving anyway. So…
She took off her apron, folded it neatly, and placed it on the table.
“I quit. And I hope you have the courage to look your wife in the eye tonight.”
She turned and slowly, confidently walked toward the exit. The customers parted of their own accord. Some quietly whispered, “Well done…” Others looked at the owner with disdain.
