During a welcoming speech for King Charles, who is visiting from the United Kingdom, Donald Trump briefly paused to make a lighthearted joke about his own marriage to Melania.

The King, accompanied by Queen Camilla, is currently on a four-day visit to the United States to mark 250 years of American independence from Britain.

Aside from a minor moment that some viewed as a break from royal protocol, the visit has unfolded smoothly so far, with both leaders appearing relaxed and in good spirits throughout the events.

Speaking outside the White House on Tuesday (April 28), Trump reflected on his personal ties to the UK, mentioning his Scottish-born mother, Mary Anne MacLeod.

He shared how she moved to America at 19, met his father Fred Trump, and that the two were married for 63 years.

At that point, Trump turned toward Melania, who was seated behind him dressed in white, and joked:
“Excuse me, but that’s a record we won’t be able to match, darling.”

He added with a smile that while they have a strong marriage, reaching that milestone would likely not be possible.

Trump and Melania have been married for 21 years and share a son, Barron. Given Trump’s age, now 79, his comment reflected a realistic acknowledgment that matching his parents’ long marriage would be unlikely.

In the same speech, Trump also spoke warmly about his mother’s admiration for British royalty, especially the late Queen Elizabeth II.

He recalled how she would often watch royal events on television and point out their elegance, even mentioning that she once found a young Prince Charles charming.

Meanwhile, observers noted a positive dynamic between Trump and King Charles during the visit. According to body language expert Darren Stanton, both men appeared comfortable and engaged, using open gestures and showing no signs of tension or dominance.
