I Thought I Had Found A New Mother For My Girls. Then I Read The Final Page Of My Late Wife’s Diary: ‘Don’t Let That Woman Keep Them.

The sl:ap was so loud it ec:hoed through the mansion, but Alejandro didn’t need to hear it—he was watching it all on a hidden screen.

Forty minutes ago, he had pretended to leave for a business trip. But he hadn’t gone to the airport. Instead, he stayed behind to watch the cameras he had secretly installed just two days before.

On the monitor, he saw a nigh:tmare.

Valeria, the woman he was supposed to marry in three months, was walking toward his late wife’s bedroom. She held an old bronze key. Downstairs in the kitchen, his youngest daughter, Lupita, was crying in fear while Carmen, the maid, held her close. Carmen’s cheek was bright red from Valeria’s hand.

Alejandro stepped out of his hiding spot. His heart was pounding with a rage he had never felt before. He found Valeria right outside the heavy mahogany door. That room had been locked for three years, ever since his wife, Sofia, di:ed.

Valeria put the key in the lock, looking like she already owned the place.
“Do not open that door,” Alejandro’s voice growled.

Valeria froze. When she turned around, she tried to look innocent.
“My love! I thought you were on a plane!” she stammered.
    “The key. Now,” Alejandro demanded.

Valeria clutched the key to her chest. “Alejandro, the girls are out of control! I was just checking this room to make sure there’s nothing inside making them sad.”

Alejandro snatched the key from her hand. “I saw you hit Carmen. I saw you push my daughter. That room has been sealed for years. How do you have a key?”

Valeria dropped her act. Her face turned cold. “You don’t know how to run a family. You’re raising them to be weak, just like Sofia was.”

Alejandro didn’t say another word. He pushed past her and opened the door. The room smelled like old lavender. He turned on the light and gasped. The room had been trashed. On the bed sat a black suitcase, and inside was something he had been hunting for months: Sofia’s private diary.

    PART 2

The room was a mess. Sofia’s jewelry and legal papers were piled on the bed.

Alejandro picked up the red diary. As he read the pages, his heart broke. These weren’t just memories; they were warnings.

“May 14: I found out the company money is being stolen by Valeria’s brother.”

“August 22: She threatened me again. If I have an accident on the road, it wasn’t an accident. Alejandro needs to know the truth.”

Alejandro looked at Valeria. She wasn’t a loving fiancée anymore; she looked like a trapped animal.

“What is this?” he roared, throwing the book at her feet.

“Just the lies of a crazy woman!” Valeria spat.

Suddenly, his daughters, Valentina and Lupita, ran into the hallway followed by Carmen.

    “Dad!” Valentina cried.

“She told us if we talked, she’d send us away to boarding school and we’d never see you again!”

Valeria lunged at the girls, but Carmen stepped in the way.

“You won’t touch them again,” Carmen said firmly.

“I took your hits and let you steal my pay, but I won’t let you hurt these children.”

Lupita hugged her father, sobbing. “Dad, she used to lo:ck us in the dark closet when you were gone.

She told us you’d d:ie of sadness if we cried. Carmen was the only one who fed us and let us out.”

Alejandro realized how blind he had been. He had been so busy with work and grief that he let a mon:ster into his home.

Valeria let out a cr:azy laugh.

“So what? You signed the papers two weeks ago, Alejandro. This house and your money are in my name now. You’re all going to the street tomorrow!”

She turned to run down the stairs, thinking she had won. But at the bottom of the steps, the front door burst open.

    PART 3

    The police were already there.

    Valeria backed away, ter:rified.

“This is private property! Get out!”

    Alejandro stood up tall.
“The papers I signed were fake, Valeria. My lawyers have been watching you for a month. We knew about the stolen money. I only needed proof of how you treated my daughters—and the truth about Sofia’s de:ath. You just gave me both.”

Valeria began to shake. She fell to her knees, crying fake tears.

“Alejandro, please! I love you! I did it for us!”

“You didn’t love me,” he said coldly.

“You saw a man who was hurting and you tried to dest:roy him. Take her away.”

Valeria scre:amed and cu:rsed as the police dr:agged her out. When the door sla:mmed shut, the house finally felt quiet.

Alejandro looked at the mess in the room. He felt a deep gu:ilt for neglecting his children. He knelt on the floor and pulled his daughters into a hug.

“Forgive me,” he cried. “I was so lost in my own pa:in that I didn’t see yours. I am so sorry.”

The three of them cried together. It was a sad cry, but a healing one.

Alejandro looked at Carmen. She was standing in the corner, wiping her eyes with her apron.

    “Carmen,” he called out.

“Yes, boss? I’ll start cleaning right away,” she whispered.

Alejandro walked over and took her hands.

“No more ‘boss.’ You were the mother they needed when I wasn’t here. You took hits to protect them. You are not a servant. You are family.”

Carmen sobbed. “Mrs. Sofia made me promise before she di:ed that I would never leave them. I was just keeping my promise.”

That night, they didn’t sleep in the big, lonely bedrooms. They stayed in the living room together. They ordered pizza and sat on the floor by the fireplace. The girls told stories of how Carmen had looked after them in secret.

Alejandro looked at the woman who had saved his family.

“Tomorrow, I’m setting up a fund so you never have to worry about money again, Carmen. But I want you to stay. This is your home.”

Carmen nodded, stroking Valentina’s hair. For the first time in three years, the mansion didn’t feel like a cold museum. It felt like a home. The true treasure wasn’t the gold or the money; it was the love and loyalty that finally brought them back together.

The nigh:tmare was over. Peace had finally returned.
