But for Isabel Cort\u00e9s, that night was a slow, public execution.<\/p>\n

Before her stood H\u00e9ctor Vald\u00e9s, her husband of eleven years. Impeccable, confident, cruel.
\nBeside him, without the slightest shame, stood Claudia. His lover. Seven months pregnant. A tight green dress. One hand on her belly\u2026 like someone showing off a hard-won trophy.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s be realistic, Isabel,\u201d H\u00e9ctor said without even looking at her. \u201cAn empire needs a true heir.\u201d<\/p>\n

He pushed some documents toward her. Isabel recognized them immediately: a new inheritance structure. Two names were crossed out with a red line.<\/p>\n

Sof\u00eda and Elena.
\nHer daughters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re just girls,\u201d Hector continued, sipping his wine. \u201cThey grow up, get married, leave. They don\u2019t guarantee a legacy. The future is here.\u201d<\/p>\n

He bent down and kissed Claudia\u2019s belly, slowly, proudly.
\nSome of the guests looked uncomfortable. Others pretended not to see.<\/p>\n

\u201cFinally, I\u2019ll have a son,\u201d he said. \u201cA real heir.\u201d<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Claudia smiled smugly.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur son will carry your name with honor,\u201d she whispered. \u201cI was able to give you what you needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Isabel felt something break inside her.<\/p>\n

But she didn\u2019t cry.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t beg.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t scream.<\/p>\n

She signed the papers with a calmness that disconcerted Hector.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust like that?\u201d he asked, surprised. \u201cI knew you\u2019d understand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Isabel slowly looked up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI signed because you deserve exactly what\u2019s coming next.\u201d<\/p>\n

She opened her bag and took out a sealed manila envelope with the logo of a private medical laboratory.
\nShe placed it directly over the name of the supposed heir.<\/p>\n

“You’re obsessed with bl:o:od,” she said softly. “Before you celebrate… you should read this.”<\/p>\n

Hector’s face tightened. Claudia paled.<\/p>\n

“Open it,” Isabel whispered.<\/p>\n

“Or tell me… are you afraid to discover the truth about your own empire?”<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The piano stopped.<\/p>\n

The silence was absolute.<\/p>\n

Something was about to destroy everything.<\/p>\n

Hector took the envelope with a strained smile, more out of pride than curiosity.<\/p>\n

“Always so dramatic, Isabel,” he said as he opened it. “What could a piece of paper possibly say that we don’t already know?” He took out the report. He read the first line.<\/p>\n

Then the second. The color drained from his face.<\/p>\n

“What is that?” Claudia asked, nervously placing her hand on her stomach. Hector didn’t answer. His eyes scanned the document again and again, as if the words were about to change.<\/p>\n

“Conclusive result: irreversible infertility.” The wine glass fell to the floor.<\/p>\n

“That’s impossible…” Hector murmured. “I have two daughters.” Isabel spoke with a calmness that cut like glass.<\/p>\n

“You have them because I wanted them. We used a donor. You signed… without reading.” The silence was brutal.<\/p>\n

“The diagnosis is from twelve years ago,” she continued. The same year the doctors told you that you could never have biological children.<\/p>\n

Claudia took a step back.<\/p>\n

“Hector\u2026 tell me that’s not true.”<\/p>\n

Isabel looked at her for the first time.<\/p>\n

“I’m sorry,” she said. “But that child\u2026 isn’t his.”<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Claudia burst into tears.<\/p>\n

“He swore to me he was fertile\u2026” she sobbed. “He promised me a life, a name, an empire\u2026”
\nHector trembled.<\/p>\n

“So\u2026 all this\u2026?”<\/p>\n

Isabel stood up slowly.<\/p>\n

“This entire empire,” she said, “was built while you were chasing a name you could never perpetuate.”<\/p>\n

She took another document from her bag and placed it on the table.<\/p>\n

“While you played king, I moved every piece.
\nThe stocks. The properties. The restaurant.<\/p>\n

Everything is now in Sofia and Elena’s names.”<\/p>\n

Hector tried to speak, but he couldn’t. \u201cAnd you,\u201d Isabel added, \u201ckeep the only thing that ever mattered to you: the family name.\u201d<\/p>\n

She turned to leave.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh\u2026 and one more thing,\u201d she said without looking at him. \u201cThe report also confirms that Claudia knew the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Claudia raised her head, terrified.<\/p>\n
