For a brief moment, she hesitated. A heavy silence settled over the courtroom, thick enough to feel. The soft buzz of the overhead lights was the only sound. The judge studied her closely. The clerk\u2019s fingers hovered, no longer typing. Even the attorneys exchanged uneasy looks.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuc\u00eda\u2026\u201d Javier Morales spoke softly, carefully, almost begging. \u201cPut the phone away. We\u2019ll talk about this at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

She turned to him sharply. The fear that once lived in her eyes was gone, replaced by something deeper\u2014hurt, and bitter disappointment.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt home?\u201d she asked quietly. \u201cIn that house where you told me not to say anything? Where you said Sofia was lying?\u201d<\/p>\n

Javier swallowed. For the first time, the confidence that always protected him cracked\u2014right there, in front of everyone.<\/p>\n

Luc\u00eda nodded. Then she pressed play.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sofia Ruiz\u2019s voice echoed through the room. The audio was slightly distorted, but the words were unmistakable.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t keep quiet anymore\u2026 what happened that night wasn\u2019t my fault\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

A wave of murmurs spread across the benches. Sofia\u2014still in handcuffs\u2014slowly lifted her head. Recognition hit her, and tears welled in her eyes.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe told me if I spoke up, I\u2019d lose everything\u2026 that no one would believe me\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be time for objections,\u201d the judge cut in. \u201cGo on, Luc\u00eda.\u201d<\/p>\n

She opened another file\u2014this time, a video. The footage was shaky, filmed in the dim hallway of the Morales home. The timestamp was visible. Javier\u2019s voice came through clearly.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you know what this would do to me?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease\u2026 tell the truth\u2026\u201d Sofia\u2019s voice trembled.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is, no one will believe you.\u201d<\/p>\n

A collective breath escaped the room.<\/p>\n

Javier shot to his feet. \u201cThis is manipulation!\u201d he shouted. \u201cShe\u2019s a child\u2014she doesn\u2019t understand what she\u2019s doing!\u201d<\/p>\n

Luc\u00eda met his gaze, calm and steady. Her hands no longer shook.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\u201cI understand perfectly,\u201d she said. \u201cYou told me that if Sofia spoke, you\u2019d make her look guilty. And that\u2019s exactly what you did.\u201d<\/p>\n

The judge removed his glasses and stared at Javier.<\/p>\n

\u201cSit down, Mr. Morales.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the first time, Javier complied without resistance. He looked drained, as if all strength had left him.<\/p>\n

Sofia\u2019s knees buckled. An officer stepped forward, but the judge raised his hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cRemove the handcuffs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The sharp metallic click echoed through the courtroom. Sofia stared at her freed wrists in disbelief, then looked up at Luc\u00eda. The girl smiled\u2014small, sincere.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou always told me the truth mattered most,\u201d Luc\u00eda whispered. \u201cEven when it hurts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sofia\u2019s tears flowed freely.<\/p>\n

The hearing was suspended. The case was reopened for further investigation. Lawyers spoke in tense, hushed tones. Javier Morales was escorted to another room for questioning.<\/p>\n
