The color drained from his face.<\/h1>\n

\u201cI\u2026 I took a cold shower. We argued. I needed to calm down.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout what?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing! Nothing! She ruined dinner!\u201d<\/p>\n

I glanced toward the kitchen. It was spotless. No burnt smell. No dirty dishes.<\/p>\n

Inside my hand was a transparent evidence pouch. Inside it\u2014Sarah\u2019s shattered phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe nurse gave it to me,\u201d I said. \u201cIt\u2019s hers.\u201d<\/p>\n

His breathing became uneven.<\/h1>\n
