The boy brushed the dirt from his hands onto his shirt, took a deep breath, and turned back toward school. His heart pounded as he wondered what excuse he could possibly give this time.<\/p>\n

\u2014 \u201cI don\u2019t want excuses,\u201d she snapped. \u201cSit down. And don\u2019t let it happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n
He lowered himself into his seat, his chest heavy with shame. Then\u2014something completely unexpected happened.<\/p>\n
The classroom door opened. The same woman from the street stood there, accompanied by the principal. Her voice was steady and loud enough for everyone to hear.<\/p>\n
\u2014 \u201cThis boy saved my son\u2019s life today. I came to tell you what he did. Not many children his age would have had the courage to act the way he did.\u201d<\/p>\n
The room fell silent. The teacher stood frozen, speechless. The principal stepped forward and placed a small box on the boy\u2019s desk. Inside was a brand-new e-reader.<\/p>\n
\u2014 \u201cYou made the right choice,\u201d the principal said kindly. \u201cWe\u2019re very proud of you.\u201d<\/p>\n
The teacher\u2019s face drained of color. She leaned closer and whispered softly,<\/p>\n
\u2014 \u201cI\u2019m sorry\u2026 I didn\u2019t know\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
The boy didn\u2019t reply. Instead, a warm calm settled inside him. In that moment, he understood something important: harsh words and punishments don\u2019t matter when you\u2019ve done the right thing. Some actions are bigger than grades, bigger than rules.<\/p>\n
What truly matters is choosing to be kind\u2014and brave\u2014when it counts most.<\/p>\n
