From then on, Snow became part of our goodbye ritual. Every time I packed up for another long-haul trucking trip, Emily insisted the bear sit in the passenger seat of my rig, buckled in like a co-pilot. She said Snow would \u201ckeep an eye on me\u201d while I was out on the highway. No matter how tired I was, no matter how far I had to go, I always made room for that oversized bear. The next morning, I stood in the patch of earth behind the house, shovel in hand. It felt strange, digging for something my daughter had hidden like a treasure hunt meant for grief.<\/h1>\n

When I finally uncovered the box, it was wrapped carefully in plastic. Inside were photographs of our trips to the lake, ticket stubs from the fair, drawings she\u2019d made of my truck with Snow in the window. There were folded notes labeled \u201cFor when you feel lonely,\u201d and \u201cFor when you think you can\u2019t do this anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Each one was a reminder that joy had existed here\u2014real, bright, undeniable.<\/p>\n
