I stepped into a small caf\u00e9 to escape the rain and feed my baby granddaughter\u2026 but instead of kindness, I was met with hostility.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Someone even called the police on me. Days later, my story ended up in the local newspaper.
\nI had my daughter, Sarah, when I was 40. She was my miracle\u2014my only child. She grew into a bright, kind-hearted woman, full of life.<\/p>\n

At 31, she was finally expecting her own baby. But during childbirth last year\u2026 I lost her.
\nShe never even got the chance to hold her daughter.
\nHer boyfriend couldn\u2019t handle the responsibility and walked away, leaving me to raise the baby alone. He sends a small amount of money each month, but it barely covers the basics.
\nSo now, it\u2019s just me and little Amy\u2014named after my mother.
\nI\u2019m 72, tired most days\u2026 but Amy has no one else. And that\u2019s enough reason for me to keep going.<\/p>\n

Yesterday had already been exhausting. The pediatrician\u2019s office was crowded, and Amy cried through most of her appointment. By the time we left, my back ached and the rain was pouring down.
\nI spotted a caf\u00e9 nearby and hurried inside, shielding her stroller with my jacket.

\nMy hands shook as I reached for the bottle. If Amy stopped crying, maybe they would leave me alone.

\n\u201cMa\u2019am\u2026 maybe it would be better if you stepped outside to feed her, so you don\u2019t disturb other customers?\u201d she suggested softly.
\nI couldn\u2019t believe it. No compassion, no understanding.
\nI looked around, hoping someone might support me\u2014but most people avoided eye contact.
\nI apologized again and said I would order something soon.<\/p>\n

Then something strange happened.
\nAmy suddenly stopped crying. Her body went still, her eyes wide, as if she had noticed something I hadn\u2019t.
\nShe reached out\u2014not toward me, but toward the door.
\nI turned\u2026 and saw two police officers walking in, rain dripping from their uniforms.
